
IMB IT Induction Guide for New UQ Staff

UQ leads the way among Australian universities with the latest IT and online Services: connecting you on campus, around Australia, and overseas. Starting work at a large organisation, such as The University of Queensland, can be challenging when trying to find all the information you need.
Information Technology Services at the IMB have put together this guide to help you get started with your IT needs. IT provides a wide range of IT services for students, academic and general staff. IMB IT supports the Administrative; teaching and learning; and research needs of the University.
Your UQ Username and Email
- You will receive your UQ username shortly after you arrive.
- You will receive your IMB username after completing your induction checklist
- You will need to change your UQ password when you first log in here: https://uq.edu.au/password
- You will need to change your IMB password when your first login here: https://webdb.imb.uq.edu.au/db/passwd/
- If you haven’t received your UQ login upon starting work, call your Human Resources division and check your Aurion profile is complete, if so ask for your employee number.
- Call the service desk on (07) 3346-2233 if you have lost or forgotten your UQ login or IMB login

Internet Access (Single Sign on)
In order to access the internet while on the IMB network, the web browser will redirect you to the network login page. When you are trying to connect to a https page, please manually type in the following URL on your web browser.
https://login.uq.edu.au (login to the internet)
https://logout.uq.edu.au (logout from the internet)
IMPORTANT: Please note if on UQ/Eduroam Wi-Fi, login to the internet will not be required.
UQ WiFi
UQ WiFi is the default wireless network for all campuses. It provides intuitive and secure access for all standard devices. Please use your UQ username and password to connect. Learn more about connecting to UQ WiFi please visit: https://its.uq.edu.au/services/connect-to-wifi
Eduroam
Eduroam is a secure international roaming service shared by many universities and other institutions. Eduroam can be accessed using by selecting Eduroam from your devices Wi-Fi list then entering your uqusername@uq.edu.au and password at any participating campus or institution within Australia, plus other institutions around the world. What is VPN?
A virtual private network (VPN) lets you securely connect your external computer or device to a private network (such as the University's network).
The connection will act as if it is on the actual private network. This will give you full access to most services found on the University's network, such as certain web pages, drives, library information etc.
How can I set it up?
- Follow the VPN instructions. The instructions will walk you through everything you need to do to access the UQ VPN, from downloading software to connecting to UQ servers from your device. The process may take about 10 minutes or so.
IMB IT can provide advice and recommendations on the most appropriate technology for your event and technical support during special events when required.
IMPORTANT: IT does not currently provide AV support unless there is a technical issue with computing or equipment. Please ask your Floor manager in the first instance.
As a UQ staff member you have access to a wide range of software to use at home for work purposes some titles are free, others are at greatly reduced prices. Software is available to use at home for work related activities for the duration of your employment at UQ. For more information visit https://www.its.uq.edu.au/services/software
Installing software on IMB Windows computers
Staff using Windows computers managed by IMB IT can self-install software by using Microsoft's Software Center. To access the Software Center, go to the Start menu and search for 'software center' in the search box.
Installing software on IMB Apple computers
Staff using Mac Computers managed by IMB IT can self-install software in Mac Self Service. To access Self Service, go to Finder, Applications then Self Service.
